20250721 Uchimizu

What do you do when it’s too hot to go outside in summer?

In Japan, you might see people sprinkling water on the ground in front of their homes. This is called uchimizu.

Uchimizu is a traditional Japanese custom that dates back to the Sengoku or Azuchi-Momoyama period.

It has several positive effects. First, sprinkling cold water on the ground can make the surrounding area feel cooler.

Second, it helps reduce dust. Third, it keeps the ground clean.

And finally, it makes guests feel more comfortable when they visit.

If you’re struggling with the summer heat, why not try uchimizu?
